Episode 11 Recap:
- Endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, pudendal neuralgia are commonly seen together in patients with pelvic pain
- 600k hysterectomies are performed each year; 80% for benign reasons like pain
- Prehab is important for patients undergoing hysterectomies
- Health is more than physical which is why we may ask about:
- Sleep/rest/recovery
- Movement/fitness
- Work or daily activities that contribute to the household
- Parenting/caregiving
- Relationships
- Nourishment
- Pleasure
- Sexual shame isn’t a YOU problem, it is a society problem
- Anal pleasure isn’t just for gay men and should be discussed with patients as appropriate if that is something they are interested in
- Erectile dysfunction has many causes and they should all be explored including musculoskeletal factors when treating
- Be aware of hard doming/coning with diastasis recti - we will help you monitor and manage this
- Abdominoplasty may not result in a perfectly flat stomach, it is not the easy or lazy way out, and you cannot always avoid surgery with conservative management
- Don’t be afraid of pessaries - they may be super helpful and even temporary
- A tight pelvic floor can absolutely cause stress incontinence
- Pelvic floor therapy can help with fertility including
- Improving pelvic blood flow to reproductive organs
- Optimize sexual function
- Relieve stress and anxiety with downtraining to nervous system
- Post surgical rehab to restore normal pelvic function
